Ascent 121 Non-Profit Training Course 

The Issue: Ascent 121, a non-profit that provides trauma-informed therapeutic services that are survivor-centered and strengths-based.  Ascent 121 physicians and clinical professionals created a tool to help assess victims' trauma indicators in order to be better able to create a recovery plan for them. The tool was a 100+ page manual. They needed a way to trainer providers on the tool in an interactive format.

Solution: I collaborated with another instructional designer to create this project. We broke the content into 9 learning modules by indicator topic. Each module featured interactive elements such as flashcards, Vyond videos and audio files. They included learning objectives, lesson summaries, and key points. These modules were used to train clinicians, doctors, and anyone involved in the recovery plan for patients.  I will share 3 of 6 modules I built for this program.

Build Time: Each module varied from 2-6 hours in build time.

Prescott Area Shelter Services (PASS) Volunter Conflict Resolution Course 

The Issue: Prescott Area Shelter Services (PASS) provides temporary, emergency shelter to women and women with children in a 19-bed dormitory setting, and an additional two rooms built to serve mom's with children, including sons over 12 years old. Shelter Guests may stay up to 90-Days with the opportunity to extend their stay if certain criteria are met. While at PASS, guests receive case management services and referral to valuable community resources.

These services are provided by a few paid staff members and volunteers. PASS was experiencing conflict issues between volunteers and paid staff as well as shelter guests. They needed a training course to remind paid and non-paid staff how to handle conflict between team members and conflict between shelter guests.

Solution: I met with the PASS Program Coordinator, who served as the SME. I started with a content and needs analysis Kick-Off session with her to determine what type of training would be best suit their learners and learning objectives. I determine the best option would be an Articulate Rise CBT. I used content from their handbook as well other conflict resolution sources to create an interactive Rise course.

E-Learning? Say What?!

The Issue: Purdue Cooperative Extension Educators struggle to find time to research tools to enhance their presentations, marketing materials, and educational workshops, especially as they pertain to e-Learning. As e-Learning is becoming more popular in all industries, Extension Educators are hindered by time, energy, and money to learn about the complex tools out there such Articulate, Photoshop, etc. 

Solution: I created a training workshop for the Indiana Extension Educators Association Spring Conference focused on featuring e-Learning tools that are quick, easy, and simple to learn. The session also went over basic e-Learning terminology and instructional design elements that can translate to the Cooperative Extension field in synchronous and asynchronous learning. The session was originally presented in-person using a Microsoft PowerPoint. Information was transferred to Articulate Rise.
